Former President Uhuru Kenyatta and former First Lady Margaret Kenyatta attended a commissioning Mass for the Catholic Women Association (CWA) on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Murram, Juja, Kiambu County.

The Office of the Fourth President said the couple joined worshippers during the Mass, which brought together members of the Catholic Women’s Association from different parishes. The service focused on prayer, renewal of commitment, and commissioning of members into service within the Church.

In a post on X, the Office of the Fourth President stated:

“Former President Uhuru Kenyatta, accompanied by former First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, today attended the commissioning Mass of the Catholic Women Association (CWA) at St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Murram.”

The Catholic Women’s Association is a lay organisation within the Catholic Church in Kenya. It brings together women who support church activities and community service. Members take part in evangelisation, family support programmes, charity work, and church development activities. Commissioning Masses mark an important moment where members are formally admitted or renewed in their commitment to serve.

The Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Juja attracted worshippers who gathered for prayers and fellowship. The Kenyattas sat with parishioners during the service. Their presence reflected continued participation in community and faith-based events since leaving office in 2022.

Faith, service, continuity

The church in Murram is part of the wider Catholic community in Juja. Events such as commissioning Masses are central to parish life, as they strengthen participation in church missions and local outreach work.

The CWA plays a key role in supporting families and vulnerable groups through church-led initiatives. Members are often involved in visiting the sick, supporting church programmes, and promoting Christian values in households and communities. The organisation also focuses on unity among women in the Church and encourages active participation in social and spiritual development.

During such ceremonies, members commit to uphold values of faith, humility, and service. The commissioning also serves as a reminder of the role women play in strengthening both church and society.

The appearance by Uhuru and Margaret comes shortly after several recent public engagements by the former first lady. On June 7, 2026, Margaret addressed a youth empowerment event during the Ghetto Classics Charity Golf Tournament in Kiambu County, where she praised programmes that use music and mentorship to support young people.

Their attendance at the Juja Mass adds to a pattern of low-profile but steady participation in religious and community activities. It also highlights the close relationship between national leaders and faith-based organisations in Kenya.
