An investigation has been launched following a road rage incident in Nairobi’s Lavington area that left a taxi damaged and prompted investigations by both the National Police Service (NPS) and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

The incident, which occurred near a shopping mall, was captured on video and has since circulated widely on social media, attracting public attention over rising cases of aggressive driving on Kenyan roads.

Speaking after the incident on Saturday, July 11, 2026, the taxi driver said he was dropping off a client at the mall when he encountered the Prado driver during a traffic manoeuvre.

“I had a client who was entering the mall. We met at a point where there was a misunderstanding over who should pass first. As I tried to give him space, he kept blocking me before following me and crashing into my vehicle,” the taxi driver said.

Mbagathi Way accident

Away from that, a vehicle burst into flames after crashing into a pedestrian footbridge close to the Riara University turn-off along Mbagathi Way in Nairobi in the early hours of Saturday, July 11, 2026, leaving residents and motorists puzzled over how it ended up on the structure.

The vehicle appeared to veer off the main carriageway before somehow making its way onto the stairs leading to the pedestrian footbridge.

It eventually came to a stop on the footbridge, where it caught fire.

Videos shared by members of the public showed the vehicle engulfed in flames, with thick smoke billowing into the air as the fire consumed it.

Several motorists slowed down or stopped to witness the unfolding incident, while bystanders gathered near the scene as emergency response efforts got underway.
