Prison Queens hail quartet called up for national team duty

Kenya National Volleyball League outfit Prison Queens has lauded a trio of its players and their former star for earning nods in the Kenya National Volleyball team, Malkia Strikers.
Three of the wardens’ current players have been named in Geoffrey Omondi’s provisional squad released on Monday, June 9, 2025, ahead of the 2025 FIVB World Championships, scheduled from August 22 to September 7, 2025.
Impressive setter Marcleen Okoko leads the Prisons’ delegation.
The setter will feature alongside a star-studded list of equals in Emmaculate Nekesa (KPC), Fridah Boke (KCB), Vallerie Chepkoech of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), and Vivian Vuguza of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) team.

Pauline Itoo, the team’s outside hitter, has also been named in the provisional squad.
Lorine Kaei, who features as a middle blocker, wraps up the Prisons contingent in the team.
Kaei, will be out to fight for her place in the final squad after earning her place alongside six other blockers from rival clubs.
One foreign-based star
The 2025 Women’s Volleyball best middle blocker, Kenya Pipeline’s Gladys Ekaru, highlights the star named for the position.
The team also recognised Meldina Sande, their former player who left the club for a professional stint in Rwanda.
Sande, now plies her trade with Rwanda Volleyball Club, Police VC, whom she guided to the 2025 national title in May.
The attacker is the sole foreign-based member, called by Geoffrey Omondi.

Kenya will compete in Pool G, facing off against Poland, Germany, and Vietnam in what promises to be a thrilling contest.
As part of their final preparations for the FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Championship–set to take place from August 22 to September 7–Malkia Strikers are scheduled to hold a week-long training camp in Vietnam. This will follow the conclusion of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) National League end-of-season playoffs, ensuring the team is well-conditioned before heading to Thailand for the global showdown.
The Ladies will be out to defend Kenya’s budding legacy in the competition.
The women’s team has bagged the African Volleyball Championship 10 times since the 1990s and qualified for the Olympics in 2000, 2004, 2020, and 2024.
