Ministry of Defence recognised as top-performing docket for 2024/25
The Ministry of Defence has been named the Best Performing Ministry under the 2024/2025 Performance Contract, a major recognition highlighting its strengthened institutional efficiency, improved service delivery, and commitment to results-based governance.
The award was presented by President William Ruto during the inaugural National Productivity and Performance Conference held at the Kenya School of Government, bringing together senior leaders from government and the wider public sector under the theme “Productivity for Fiscal Sustainability and Efficient Service Delivery.”
In a statement on Friday, June 19, 2026, Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya described the recognition as a significant milestone for the Ministry, noting that it reflects sustained commitment across both military and civilian structures.
“Together with the Principal Secretary for Defence, Dr. Patrick Mariru and the Kenya Defence Forces (Kenya Defence Forces), Assistant Chief of Defence Forces Personnel & Logistics Maj Gen Peter Limo, we were honoured this morning to receive the Best Performing Ministry Award under the 2024/2025 Performance Contract,” she stated.
Tuya emphasised that the achievement underscores the Ministry’s role in advancing government priorities through institutional reforms and disciplined execution.

According to her, the award affirms the Ministry of Defence’s outstanding performance in advancing Government priorities through strengthened institutional efficiency, enhanced service delivery, accountability, and the institutionalisation of a results-based approach under the national performance contracting and productivity framework.
She further highlighted the contribution of personnel across the defence sector, crediting their professionalism and dedication as central to the Ministry’s success.
“It is a timely affirmation of the patriotism, dedication, discipline and professionalism of the men and women of the Kenya Defence Forces and civilian staff of the Ministry, who serve alongside them in advancing the Ministry’s mandate,” she wrote on X.
The CS noted that this collective effort continues to enhance operational readiness and ensure responsive service delivery to the nation.
“Their collective commitment continues to strengthen institutional excellence, enhance operational readiness, and ensure responsive and effective service delivery to the nation,” she added.
The conference, convened by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), provided a platform for evaluating productivity across government institutions and reinforcing accountability in public service delivery.
As the Ministry celebrates this achievement, Tuya reaffirmed its long-term vision for continuous improvement.
“We remain committed to continuous improvement and to deepening a culture of productivity, performance, discipline and innovation across the Ministry of Defence in service to our nation,” she stated.
The recognition places the Ministry of Defence at the forefront of public sector performance, reflecting ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening efficiency, discipline, and service delivery within Kenya’s national security architecture.
