Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has assured Kenyans that the Harambee Stars’ journey is only beginning despite their exit from the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) at the quarterfinal stage.

Kenya bowed out after a tough clash against Madagascar on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Taking to his official X account on Friday, August 22, 2025, Mohammed emphasised that the team had inspired unity and pride across the country with their spirited performance.

“Together in victory, together in defeat. After today’s tough loss, I joined H.E. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Sports CS Salim Mvurya, PS Elijah Mwangi, and LOC officials in the Harambee Stars dressing room to thank our players for their effort and commitment throughout CHAN 2024,” Mohammed stated.

He also lauded the players’ resilience, noting that their determination had elevated Kenya’s football to new heights.

“We are proud of how far they’ve come and the unity they’ve inspired across the country. This journey is a foundation for what lies ahead – and with continued hard work, support from government, and sound football structures, the best is yet to come for Kenyan football,” he stated.

Harambee Stars’ CHAN run

The Harambee Stars’ run to the quarterfinals has been hailed as one of the most promising performances in recent years, raising hopes that Kenya could become a force to be reckoned with as preparations for AFCON 2027 intensify.

Mohammed had earlier hailed Harambee Stars players for putting up a strong team despite being edged out of the competition by Group B runners-up Madagascar.

In a statement on Friday, August 22, 2025, FKF President Hussein Mohammed also remarked that the support from fans was incredible.

“Thank you, Harambee Stars! Though the journey ends here, reaching the CHAN 2024 quarterfinals has shown what we can achieve when we believe and work together,” Mohammed said.

He equally thanked the government for its efforts in motivating the players to outdo themselves.

“To the players, thank you for your effort; to the fans, your support has been incredible; and to the government led by President William Ruto, the Ministry of Sports, FKF NEC, our chairmen, secretariat, coaches, and technical bench – your contribution has been invaluable,” Mohammed said.
