Wetang’ula orders transfer of bodies of all Nandi chopper crash victims to Nairobi
Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has directed the National Assembly Clerk to facilitate the repatriation of the remains of the late Emurua Dikirr MP, Johanna Ng’eno, from Eldoret to Nairobi.
In a statement shared on the Speaker’s various social media channels on Sunday, March 1, 2026, Wetang’ula confirmed that funeral preparations for the late outspoken MP are now in top gear.
Besides Ng’eno’s body, Wetang’ula directed the National Assembly Clerk to facilitate the repatriation of the bodies of the other victims.

“I have directed the Clerk of the National Assembly to facilitate the transportation of the bodies of all victims of the fatal helicopter crash in Nandi to Nairobi”
“As a nation, we continue to mourn with the bereaved families during this painful time. We stand in solidarity with them and remain committed to offering the necessary support to ease the burden of their loss,” Wetang’ula stated.
This comes after another team had already been dispatched to the Nairobi home of the late legislator to liaise with the family on funeral arrangements. Ng’eno was serving his third term in Parliament before his life was cut short.
“The Parliament of Kenya has started funeral preparations for Emurua Dikirr lawmaker Johana Ng’eno Kipyegon following his tragic death on Saturday evening.”
“A staff planning team is already at the late MP’s Nairobi residence to offer support to the family and begin coordinating funeral arrangements for the late legislator,” read a statement by the National Assembly.
The body of the late MP is expected to leave the Eldoret MTRH mortuary, where it was temporarily stored after being evacuated from the Mosop area, where the helicopter crashed with five other people on board.
A team led by Tinderet MP Julius Melly and Buuri MP Mugambi Rindikiri, together with eight other MPs, will also represent the National Assembly in the burial plans of the late legislator.
The crash
The late Ngen’o met his death in Mosop Constituency after the helicopter he was travelling in, alongside five others, crashed in a forest at 4:45 pm on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

According to authorities, the pilot encountered poor visibility due to heavy rainfall in the area and was forced to attempt an emergency landing.
Reports indicate that the pilot had brief interactions with herders in the area to assess the situation before taking off again, only for the aircraft to crash about 300 metres after takeoff.
All those on board were burnt beyond recognition, and the remains of the six were taken to MTRH.
Wetang’ula mourns Ng’eno
Wetang’ula has also mourned the MP as a devoted leader who served in three committees.
He chaired the Housing and Public Works Committee, which oversaw the construction of affordable housing nationwide, and was also a member of the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC) and the Liaison Committee of the National Assembly.
More funeral and burial arrangements are set to be communicated in due course.
