East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Kanini Kega has vowed to pitch tents in Ol Kalou despite the attack on Monday, July 13, 2026.

Speaking at Ol Jorok Police Station after reporting the harrowing events of the previous day on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, the EALA MP stated that he will not be intimidated and that he, together with other leaders allied to the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), will pitch tents in Ol Kalou and safeguard the votes of the party’s candidate, Sammy Waweru Kamau.

The MP further stated that he has been in the constituency for the past 60 days campaigning for their candidate and insisted that they must finish what they started despite the attack meted out against them.

He termed the incident a plan by their opponents to silence and intimidate them.

“I will not be intimidated. I have been in Ol Kalou for the past 60 days, and I am not going to leave Ol Kalou. I will make sure our candidate’s votes are safeguarded. We can’t eat the cow and fail to eat the tail. We will not leave Ol Kalou,” Kanini Kega stated.

Kanini’s attack

This comes a day after the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) member Kanini Kega said he is temporarily safe after claiming he survived an armed attack.

Speaking from what he described as a hideout in Oljororok, Kega said unknown armed men, whom he identified as police officers, pursued his convoy after he concluded campaign activities in Ol Kalou ahead of the parliamentary by-election.

In a video shared on his Facebook post dated July 13, 2026, the former Kieni MP claimed three vehicles carrying armed officers intercepted his convoy as he travelled towards Nyahururu.

“Kenyans, you can see I’m under attack. I’ve been chased by armed police officers. They pointed guns at me. We were only able to escape,” he said.

His vehicle

Kega said his vehicle was sprayed with bullets during the incident. He displayed what he said was the butt of a gun that broke during the confrontation and a live bullet, saying both had been handed over to the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Kasuku Police Station.

“You wanted to kill me over three vehicles. You have even sprayed my vehicle. I am only alive by the grace of God,” Kanini Kega said.
