Former Kanduyi Member of Parliament Wafula Wamunyinyi has accused Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa of planning to disrupt the homecoming ceremony of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna at Posta Grounds in Bungoma on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

Speaking during an event in Kanduyi Constituency on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, the outspoken politician, who also serves as the chairman of the Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K), claimed that while seeking a permit from the county commissioner to book the venue, he was informed that the Kimilili lawmaker had also applied for a permit to hold a political event on the same day at a venue located a short distance from Posta Grounds.

“When I was preparing to host Edwin Sifuna for his homecoming, I was informed by the county commander that Didmus Barasa had also requested a permit from the police to hold a separate rally just a few metres from our venue on the same day. The last time, he disrupted our event. This time, we will not allow him to do so,” Wamunyinyi claimed.

Wamunyinyi warned that the MP’s plans would not succeed. He accused the Kimilili lawmaker of using similar tactics in the past, citing recent funerals where, according to him, the MP would leave after Edwin Sifuna arrived, taking with him a sizeable number of supporters. The former MP maintained that Kanduyi is Sifuna’s home turf and insisted that nobody would be allowed to disrupt the senator’s homecoming rally.

Sifuna-Barasa war

The remarks come amid an escalating supremacy battle between Senator Sifuna and the Kimilili MP in Bungoma politics, with the two leaders having, in recent months, sought to outshine each other at various public events.

The rivalry was recently evident during the burial of the brother of Bumula MP Jack Wamboka, where the Kimilili MP walked out before the burial ceremony concluded, disrupting the solemn event. In response, Sifuna criticised the MP’s conduct and cast doubt on his gubernatorial ambitions.

Sifuna’s homecoming

Meanwhile, preparations for Sifuna’s homecoming ceremony are in top gear, with organisers saying all arrangements are on course ahead of the July 26, 2026 event.

The homecoming comes at a time when Linda Mwananchi, team leader, a native of Kanduyi, Bungoma County, is seeking to secure the full blessings of his Mulembe community before embarking on the next phase of his nationwide political tour, aimed at consolidating support and popularising the Linda Mwananchi movement.

During the homecoming, according to Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, who spoke after holding a meeting with the Linda Mwananchi team at his home, on Sunday, July 5, 2026, the event will bring together all kinds of leaders, elders, and community mobilisers who will come out to bless Sifuna, crown him as their spokesman and presidential candidate, and officially release him as they, under his leadership, traverse and comb every part of Western Kenya and its 38 constituencies to woo the region into throwing its weight behind Senator Edwin Sifuna.
