Caleb Amisi: Sifuna does not need to have money to vie for presidency
Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has defended Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s potential presidential ambitions, arguing that lack of money should not prevent him from seeking the country’s top seat.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, Amisi criticised Kenya’s entrenched culture of money politics, saying it has locked out leaders with fresh ideas while contributing to the country’s socio-economic challenges.
“Sifuna does not need to have money to vie for presidency,” Amisi said.
Need to end money politics
He argued that the push to dismantle money politics is necessary to open up the political space for capable leaders regardless of their financial status.
“It is exact reasons we are fighting a culture of money politics that has condemned this country to a socio-economic quagmire and locked out new faces with fresh ideas,” he said.
Amisi expressed confidence that financing a campaign should not be a barrier, adding: “Money can be found.”

Kalonzo- Sifuna presidential bid
This comes just a day after Infotrak revealed that Kalonzo Musyoka-Edwin Sifuna pairing emerged as the most preferred opposition presidential ticket in the 2027 general elections.

According to the poll released on Monday, July 13, 2026, the Kalonzo-Sifuna ticket leads nationally with 23 per cent support, ahead of all other proposed opposition pairings.
The Infotrak said the Kalonzo-Sifuna combination enjoys its strongest backing among voters aged 18 to 26 years, where it commands 31 per cent support, while the Western region records the highest regional preference at 36 per cent.
“Kalonzo Musyoka with Edwin Sifuna is the leading opposition ticket nationally at 23 per cent,” the Infotrak survey stated.
The poll suggests younger voters are driving the popularity of the Kalonzo-Sifuna partnership.
“The Kalonzo-Sifuna ticket is strongest among 18-26 year olds (31 per cent) and in Western region (36 per cent),” Infotrak noted.
Other proposed combinations, including those involving former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Martha Karua, attracted significantly lower levels of support.
Luhya community settling on Sifuna
The Luhya community has also announced the decision to back Sifuna as their preferred candidate after a strategy meeting held at the home of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya on Sunday, July 5, 2026.

The meeting brought together leaders linked to the growing Linda Mwananchi movement, which has increasingly distanced itself from the current Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leadership.
Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi said the leaders agreed on three key resolutions as they prepare for the 2027 elections.
“The resolutions reached following a meeting held at the home of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya: Luhya leaders allied to Linda Mwananchi will rally behind Nairobi Senator Edwin W. Sifuna ahead of the 2027 General Election,” Osotsi stated.
