The Kalonzo Musyoka-Edwin Sifuna pairing has emerged as the most preferred opposition presidential ticket in a new Infotrak survey, signalling shifting political sentiment as parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.

According to the poll released on Monday, July 13, 2026, the Kalonzo-Sifuna ticket leads nationally with 23 per cent support, ahead of all other proposed opposition pairings.

Kalonzo-Sifuna leads race

Infotrak said the Kalonzo-Sifuna combination enjoys its strongest backing among voters aged 18 to 26 years, where it commands 31 per cent support, while the Western region records the highest regional preference at 36 per cent.

“Kalonzo Musyoka with Edwin Sifuna is the leading opposition ticket nationally at 23%,” the Infotrak survey states.

The survey ranks Kalonzo Musyoka with Fred Matiang’i second nationally at 16 per cent, with particularly strong support in North Eastern (23 per cent) and Eastern (22 per cent).

Meanwhile, the Fred Matiang’i-Kalonzo Musyoka ticket ranks third at 15 per cent, posting its strongest performance in Nyanza and Nairobi, where it records 19 per cent support each.

Youth back Sifuna ticket

The poll suggests younger voters are driving the popularity of the Kalonzo-Sifuna partnership.

“The Kalonzo-Sifuna ticket is strongest among 18-26 year olds (31%) and in Western region (36%),” Infotrak noted.

Other proposed combinations, including those involving former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Martha Karua, attracted significantly lower levels of support.

Many voters yet to decide

Despite the early lead by the Kalonzo-Sifuna ticket, the survey indicates that a sizeable number of Kenyans remain undecided.

“Uncertainty remains significant: Not Sure/Don’t Know is 21% overall, highest in Nairobi (27%) and among those aged over 55 years (28%); women are more undecided than men (23% vs 18%),” the poll states.

The findings come as opposition leaders intensify coalition talks and nationwide mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Political analysts say the high proportion of undecided voters suggests the race remains open, with future coalition agreements, campaign messaging and candidate selections likely to influence public opinion before the next presidential contest.

Ruto still leads presidential race

The findings come as another Infotrak survey released on Monday, July 13, 2026, showed President William Ruto maintaining the lead in the 2027 presidential race with 32 per cent support, ahead of Kalonzo Musyoka at 13 per cent.

The poll also ranked Edwin Sifuna and Fred Matiang’i joint third at 12 per cent each, highlighting Sifuna’s growing national profile.

The survey further noted that a Kalonzo-Sifuna presidential ticket remains the opposition’s most preferred combination, attracting 23 per cent support, reinforcing the duo’s growing appeal as opposition leaders continue exploring coalition arrangements ahead of the 2027 General Election.
