Former Kiminini Member of Parliament (MP) Chris Wamalwa has come out to tell President William Ruto to strip Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi of his Foreign Affairs ministerial role so that he can stick to the country and traverse the Western Kenya region campaigning for the president’s re-election in 2027.

While speaking in Kitale during a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) event on Friday, July 10, 2026, the former MP stated that if Mudavadi continues with his diplomatic engagements, flying from one country to another, the region, which he believes is firmly behind Ruto, will be lost to the United Opposition.

Huyu Prime CS wetu tunamshukuru kwa sababu leo yuko hapa. Amekuwa kwa safari mingi; mara ameenda Italy, Dubai, and India, and we want President Ruto to release you from safari za diaspora. You should leave them and do politics here locally. A lot of things have been happening because you have been missing in action.’

He also told Mudavadi to cut off his overseas visits since the electioneering period has now reached and stamp his authority locally by traversing each part of the Mulembe region since, according to him, he is the topmost leader from Western Kenya and the person who is William Ruto’s successor in 2032 after the completion of his second term, should Ruto win in 2027.

Wamalwa, who wants to vie for the UDA Secretary-General seat at the upcoming National Delegates Conference (NDC) of the ruling party and the 2027 Trans Nzoia gubernatorial post, also called upon National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula to fold his Ford Kenya party and join the UDA party if he indeed believes in William Ruto’s re-election.

This comes after he had taken issue with Wetang’ula following his endorsement of former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha as the preferred choice in the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial race. Wamalwa, who was a former ally of Wetang’ula, told him to stick to Bungoma and stop meddling in the political affairs of the Trans Nzoia locals, saying that they will choose their own leader.

Wamalwa and Wetang’ula have not seen eye to eye since the formation of the Kenya Kwanza government. Wamalwa has maintained that despite overseeing the UDA–Ford Kenya coalition agreement and being one of its signatories, he was denied what he considers his rightful share in government. He believes the Health Cabinet Secretary position had initially been earmarked for him before it was eventually awarded to Susan Nakhumicha.

Wetang’ula’s defense

On his part, Wetang’ula defended himself, explaining that when President William Ruto was constituting his Cabinet, the Health docket had been allocated to Ford Kenya. However, when he submitted Wamalwa’s name for consideration, the president declined, saying he preferred appointing a woman rather than a man to the position. Consequently, Wamalwa’s nomination was dropped, and he was instead appointed non-executive chairperson of the National Standards Council (NSC), a position he continues to hold to date.
