Chris Wamalwa ditches Ford Kenya, declares interest in UDA SG position
Former Kiminini Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Chris Wamalwa has ditched National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s Ford Kenya party and declared interest in the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party’s Secretary General position.
Speaking at Kabuyefwe, Trans Nzoia County, on Thursday, January 29, 2026, Wamalwa said he is ready and well prepared to face off with the ruling party’s current SG, Hassan Omar Hassan.
The tough-talking politician who served for two terms as a lawmaker said his decision to join President William Ruto’s party came after consulting Trans Nzoia residents.
“I am officially joining UDA and will be running for the secretary general position. I am ready to send home the interim SG, Hassan Omar, so that we can steer the party to the next level,” Wamalwa stated.

Wamalwa attacks Wetang’ula
In what appeared to be an indirect attack on the Speaker of the National Assembly, Wamalwa said the people of Bungoma should not meddle with the politics of Trans Nzoia.
“We are telling the people of Bungoma to stay away from our affairs because we know very well how to organize our politics. Just the way we don’t go to Bungoma to help them organize themselves, they should keep off Trans Nzoia politics,” he added.
His sentiments were echoed by Endebess Constituency Member of Parliament Robert Pukose, who said Trans Nzoia is not an extension of any other county.
“Just like Chris Wamalwa said, Bungoma should not interfere with our politics; we are also telling the people from Eldoret not to lecture us about Trans Nzoia leadership,” Pukose said.
Wamalwa, who served as the Secretary General of the Ford Kenya party, fell out with Wetang’ula after he did not make it to President William Ruto’s Cabinet.
Wamalwa vied for the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat but was defeated by Governor George Natembeya in the 2022 general election.
