UDA unhappy with Ruto’s 40% Nyanza rating, vows to deliver 95% vote in 2027
Leaders of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in Nyanza have expressed dissatisfaction with President William Ruto’s 40 per cent support rating in the region, saying they will intensify grassroots campaigns to increase his popularity and deliver 95 per cent of the region’s vote in the 2027 General Election.
The renewed mobilisation follows the release of the latest InfoTrak Voice of the People poll, which showed President Ruto enjoys his strongest regional support in North Eastern at 59 per cent, followed by Rift Valley at 46 per cent and Nyanza at 40 per cent.
Nationally, the survey placed President Ruto ahead of other potential presidential contenders with 32 per cent support.
Speaking on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, UDA Homa Bay County Chairperson Kennedy Obuya said party leaders were unhappy with the president’s performance in Nyanza as reflected in the poll, arguing that the region should post much higher support for the Head of State.
“We have seen the opinion poll by InfoTrak indicating that President Ruto commands 59 per cent support in North Eastern, 46 per cent in Rift Valley and 40 per cent in Nyanza. We are not happy with the Nyanza rating because we believe the president deserves much more support in this region and the fact that people in this region are in a broad-based government opt to have given us more,” Obuya said.
He said the poll had instead provided fresh motivation for UDA leaders to intensify grassroots mobilisation, recruit new supporters and encourage eligible residents to register as voters and acquire national identity cards.
“The survey has given us the courage as UDA leaders in Nyanza to push grassroots support and sensitise those who have not registered as voters to do so. We also want to ensure eligible wananchi obtain identity cards so they can participate in the next General Election,” he said.

UDA eyes Nyanza breakthrough
Obuya expressed confidence that the president’s popularity in the region would rise sharply over the next year.
“I believe that by December next year the president’s support in Nyanza will have increased to above 85 per cent,” he said.
He added that the party’s ultimate goal is to deliver 95 per cent of the votes in Nyanza to President Ruto in 2027.
Obuya also reaffirmed UDA’s confidence in President Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, saying the party would continue strengthening its grassroots structures across the region.
His remarks were echoed by UDA supporter John Okelo, who cited the same InfoTrak poll showing UDA as the country’s most popular political party with 22 per cent support, ahead of ODM’s 21 per cent.
“UDA has become more popular, especially in places like Nyanza where it was previously not strong. The President has worked and earned the trust of many Kenyans,” said Okelo.
He attributed the party’s growing popularity to development projects undertaken by the Kenya Kwanza administration, saying the government had implemented projects across the country without favouring particular regions.
According to the latest InfoTrak survey, UDA is Kenya’s most popular political party with 22 per cent support, narrowly edging ODM at 21 per cent.
The poll also found that 29 per cent of respondents did not identify with any political party, while seven per cent declined to disclose their affiliation, suggesting that a sizeable voting bloc remains open to persuasion ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Although Nyanza has traditionally been considered an ODM stronghold, UDA leaders say they are seeking to expand the party’s influence in the region through sustained grassroots mobilisation, voter registration drives and recruitment campaigns as political activity begins to gather pace ahead of the next polls.
