Wetang’ula announces team to organise burial of Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has constituted a team to coordinate with the family of the late Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr Constituency, Johana Ng’eno, in the planning of his burial.
Following the demise of the vocal legislator, Wetang’ula has appointed Tinderet MP Julius Melly, who will be assisted by his Buuri Constituency counterpart, Mugambi Rindikiri, to lead the team.
“As we mourn the loss of a devoted legislator and a committed servant of the people, I have appointed a team led by the Member for Tinderet Constituency, Hon. Julius Melly, CBS, MP, and assisted by Hon. Mugambi Rindikiri, CBS, MP, and eight other Members, to liaise with the family to coordinate support for the family, including the send-off, upon decision by the family,” a statement released by Wetang’ula and seen by People Daily Digital read.
Weta’ng’ula mourns Ng’eno
The former Bungoma County senator also mourned the late legislator and said he was instrumental in the passing of the Affordable Housing Act, 2024.
“It is with profound sorrow that I hereby notify the House and the entire Parliamentary fraternity of the untimely and tragic demise of the Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr Constituency, the late Hon. Johana Ng’eno Kipyegon, CBS, MP, who alongside five others lost their lives in a helicopter crash that occurred today, Saturday, 28th February 2026, at around 4:45pm, in Mosop, Nandi County,” the Speaker announced.
“The late Hon. Johana Ng’eno was serving his third consecutive term in Parliament, having first been elected in 2013. Until his untimely demise, he served with distinction as the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works and also as a Member of the Liaison Committee,” he added.
“In the 12th Parliament, he served as a member of the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee. 3. Under his leadership, the Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works Committee played an instrumental role in the passage of the Affordable Housing Act, 2024, which established a framework for development and access to decent and affordable housing for Kenyans.”
President William Ruto, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka are among the high-profile figures who have sent their condolence messages.
