Former Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Karanja Kibicho has completely absolved himself of any wrongdoing in the controversial and highly dramatic deportation saga of fiery lawyer Miguna Miguna.

Speaking during a sweeping, tell-all TV interview on Wednesday night, May 27, 2026, Kibicho firmly pushed back against years of public blame, stating that the media and critics have long targeted the wrong docket.

In a candid disclosure, the former security boss explained that his role as the PS for the State Department of Internal Security and Co-ordination of Government did not give him jurisdiction over border control and citizenship matters.

Kibicho expressed frustration over how his name became synonymous with Miguna’s forced exile to Canada following the dramatic 2018 mock swearing-in ceremony of Raila Odinga.

“I had my work cut out for me,” Kibicho stated defensively.

“This work immigration – you know it was very good put, and I am not trying to put my friend because I also have knowledge, having been in the Ministry of what was happening. But this work, of course, the relevant PS was Dr Kihalangwa.”

He added that public commentators simply found him an easier target due to his high-profile stature at the time.

“But it wouldn’t be fashionable to say, to be very nice to say Kibicho was the one dealing with Miguna. What was I to do with Miguna? I wasn’t the PS for Immigration.”

Setting the record straight on the chaotic standoffs at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Kibicho claimed that the government had actually made elaborate arrangements to facilitate Miguna’s smooth return to Kenya.

According to Kibicho, the entire international standoff was sparked purely by Miguna’s stubborn refusal to sign a simple, single-page piece of paperwork required to regularise his status after previously renouncing his Kenyan citizenship for Canadian nationality.

“Miguna knows that when the constitution was changed to allow for dual citizenship, he had already renounced his [citizenship] here to be Canadian. He knows that,” Kibicho asserted.

“He knows that every Kenyan who had done that and wanted to regain their citizenship did not need to do anything other than to fill a simple form. There were no interviews because you cannot be denied… and I think that push and pull around fill this paper, do this is what caused him these problems.”

In a stunning revelation, Kibicho claimed that government officials had gone as far as filling out the paperwork on Miguna’s behalf to expedite his entry.

“In fact it had been filled for him—sign here,” he added.

Addressing recent threats from Miguna regarding an impending lawsuit against him, Kibicho remained entirely unfazed, ruling out any possibility of an official apology.

“This is a matter that was taken to court, it was dealt with and concluded and if there was any wrongdoing then what would we be apologising to Miguna for?” Kibicho asked defiantly.

He concluded the segment by issuing a cheeky but legally loaded warning to Miguna regarding the passport he received upon his eventual return to Kenya under the current Ruto administration.

“I hope he filled the forms because if he didn’t fill the forms he got his passport against the law. I hope because I know he was given his passport immediately after he left, I pray that he filled the form because it is just one page,” Kibicho warned.
