Deputy governor admits problems with county services
Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula has admitted that services in the county government were not running smoothly.
Several services had ground to a halt, he said yesterday.
Many contractors had abandoned projects to protest against non-payment of their dues.
“The truth is that all is not well in county government. Nearly all services have ground to a halt,” he added.
Speaking in the Khwisero constituency, Savula (pictured) pointed out there was an urgent need for a meeting between him and Governor Fernandes Barasa to remedy the situation.
He contradicted a local MCA, who had earlier promised residents that contractors would be back at their sites in the ward next week.
“We were elected to serve the people and we must be truthful and honest. I have, for instance, heard the MCA of this ward promising residents that three projects in this ward that have stalled will be restarted next week,” the DG said.
He added, amid cheers: “Those are blatant lies because no contractor will be back at Buhili Primary School ECD, Khwisero Level IV Hospital ward and Khwisero sub-county administrator’s office next week. Who will accept to be back on site without pay?”
Trust betrayed
Savula said he always felt that leaders had betrayed the trust put in them by residents when they were elected on August 19, 2022.
He said there was widespread lethargy and incompetence in the running of county affairs.
“The bitter truth is that all is not well in the county, as many functions have either stalled or not even launched. It is high time that I sit together with the governor and find a solution to this state of affairs,” he added.
Savula’s remarks come a week after similar sentiments were expressed by Kakamega Woman Rep Elsie Muhanda.
