Gachagua hosts Kiambu MCAs, welcomes their decision to defend seats on DCP ticket
Former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has stepped up his political mobilisation in the Mount Kenya region after holding a consultative meeting with elected Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from Kiambu County in Karen, Nairobi.
In a post shared on his official social media accounts on Saturday, June 6, 2026, Gachagua said the meeting focused on governance issues affecting Kiambu residents while also reinforcing his broader political strategy ahead of the August 10, 2027 General Election.
“Today, I held a consultative meeting with the elected MCAs of Kiambu County in Karen, Nairobi,” he said. “During our discussion, we addressed a range of issues impacting the residents of Kiambu, including their challenges and expectations.”
He added that his leadership style relies heavily on engagement with grassroots leaders.
“I emphasised that continuous engagement with grassroots leaders, who interact with the common mwananchi daily, is the most effective leadership approach,” Gachagua said.

The meeting comes at a time when Gachagua has intensified his political outreach across Mount Kenya and other regions, meeting MCAs, MPs and local leaders in what analysts view as early groundwork for his DCP party ahead of 2027.
DCP mobilisation and Kiambu political message
Gachagua used the Kiambu meeting to reinforce his confidence in the DCP party structure, which he has been building since its formation. He praised the MCAs for what he termed as their commitment to community representation and political organisation.
“I extend my sincere appreciation to the leaders for taking the time to apprise me of the community’s concerns,” he said. “I also commend their commitment to defending their seats under the DCP Party in the upcoming general elections scheduled for 10th August 2027.”

His remarks signal a clear push by DCP to consolidate control in local elective positions, especially MCAs, who play a key role in grassroots mobilisation.
Political observers note that Gachagua’s strategy mirrors his earlier calls in Mount Kenya rallies where he has repeatedly urged residents to elect “defenders” of the community in all political seats.
In earlier meetings in Murang’a, he urged residents to support his party by electing MCAs, MPs, governors and senators aligned to DCP, saying he needed “defenders” to protect community interests.
Expanding Mt Kenya influence through MCAs
Over the past year, Gachagua has hosted MCAs from multiple counties including Kirinyaga, Nakuru, Murang’a and Kisii at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri.
In one of the major political shifts, he welcomed 10 MCAs from Kirinyaga who defected from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to DCP.
“This morning, I received a delegation of 10 members of the County Assembly of Kirinyaga… They conveyed that they have been instructed by their voters to join the DCP party and to stand as defenders of the community,” he said earlier.
The former deputy president has also used such meetings to position DCP as a “people-driven party” rooted in grassroots concerns.
His growing engagement with ward representatives is seen as a deliberate attempt to weaken rival influence in the Mt Kenya bloc and strengthen DCP’s organisational base before the 2027 polls.
Gachagua has repeatedly expressed confidence that DCP will form the next government after the 2027 elections.
Speaking during a diaspora engagement in the United Kingdom in May 2026, he said the party was gaining momentum both locally and abroad.
“God willing, all factors being constant, DCP will form the next government on August 10, 2027,” he said.

He has also urged Kenyans in the diaspora to join his political movement, saying their participation is critical in shaping Kenya’s future leadership.
Gachagua’s recent remarks also highlight his continued focus on Mount Kenya unity and political consolidation, a strategy he has maintained since leaving government.
He has previously warned that the region must remain politically organised, arguing that fragmentation weakens its bargaining power at national level.
In past public rallies, including funerals and church events, he has called for what he terms “defenders of the community,” a phrase he continues to use in his engagements with MCAs and MPs.
Wider political context
The DCP leader’s mobilisation comes at a time when political realignments are intensifying ahead of 2027. Leaders across the country are building coalitions and strengthening party structures in preparation for a highly competitive election.
His outreach to MCAs is particularly significant because county assemblies often serve as the backbone of local political influence, especially in voter mobilisation at ward level.
At the same time, his statements continue to attract national debate, particularly his strong criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration.
In earlier remarks, he controversially claimed that a planned Ebola facility in Laikipia was part of a broader political scheme, comments that sparked sharp reactions from government officials and health experts.
Malala denies fallout with Gachagua, affirms DCP unity
Gachagua’s latest engagement with Kiambu MCAs also comes against a backdrop of heightened political activity within the DCP leadership, where party officials have been pushing back against claims of internal divisions.
In a separate statement on the same day, DCP deputy party leader Cleophas Malala dismissed reports of a fallout with Gachagua, terming them as political propaganda aimed at weakening the opposition.
Malala insisted that the party remains united under its current leadership and urged supporters to ignore speculation about disagreements, reinforcing the message that DCP is focused on consolidating its structures and preparing for the 2027 General Election.
