Gachagua says DCP will form next govt in 2027, promises humble leadership
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed confidence that his Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) will form the next government after the August 2027 General Election.
Speaking during an engagement with Kenyans in Swindon, United Kingdom, on the night of May 22, 2026, Gachagua promised what he described as a humble and accountable leadership style if given the mandate.
He urged diaspora Kenyans to join what he termed a “national journey of change” that would extend beyond the election period.
Confidence in the 2027 victory
Gachagua told the gathering that DCP was poised to take over leadership in 2027, saying the party was actively mobilising supporters both locally and abroad in preparation for the polls.
“God willing, all factors being constant, DCP will form the next government on August 10, 2027,” Gachagua said.
He called on Kenyans in the diaspora to support the party’s agenda, noting that their participation would be crucial in shaping the country’s political future.
Appeal to diaspora voters
The former DP acknowledged concerns among diaspora Kenyans, saying many had previously been promised inclusion by political leaders but later felt sidelined after elections.
He admitted that this had created scepticism but urged them to give him the benefit of the doubt.
“I have come to request you to be part of that journey. We want to walk together in this journey, not just up to elections but beyond. I am aware that people in the diaspora have been given a lot of promises before, so you are a bit sceptical about all these promises from leaders from Kenya, because you have heard it before; you participate in helping a government come to power, and once the people assume power, you don’t see them again. I know you have that concern, but I want to ask you to give me the benefit of doubt,” he said.

Gachagua pledged that diaspora engagement would not end with elections, promising sustained involvement in national affairs.
In his remarks, Gachagua sought to project an image of consistency and integrity, insisting that political power would not alter his principles or leadership style.
“In Kenya, there is only one honest and truthful man, and he is here. Truth is part of my DNA,” he said.
He added that his past experience in government had taught him lessons that would guide his future leadership approach.
“I had power; I lost it. I am here, and I can get power again. Power cannot corrupt my morals. It cannot make me change,” he stated.
Gachagua’s remarks come as political realignments continue to take shape ahead of the 2027 General Election, with leaders intensifying outreach to both domestic and diaspora voters.
His UK engagements form part of a broader effort to strengthen the DCP’s international presence and mobilise support among Kenyans living abroad.
DCP UK Chapter pledges support
Gachagua has received a major boost from the diaspora after the UK chapter of the DCP Party pledged full support for his political agenda ahead of the 2027 General Election.
He held talks with the DCP UK Chapter executive leadership, focusing on grassroots mobilisation, youth engagement, and strengthening party structures outside Kenya.

The discussions also centred on creating sustainable platforms to connect diaspora communities to Kenya’s political and development agenda as the country heads toward the 2027 polls scheduled for 10 August 2027.
According to the former Deputy President, diaspora participation remains a critical pillar in shaping the future of the party and the country.
“Today in UK, I have held a strategic meeting with the DCP PARTY UK Chapter Executive leadership to deliberate on strengthening our party’s presence within the diaspora and advancing the vision of people-centered leadership as espoused by our Party Philosophy,” Gachagua stated.
“We continue to focus on grassroots mobilisation, diaspora engagement, youth involvement, strengthening party structures abroad while creating sustainable platforms that connect Kenyans in the diaspora to the future of our nation.”
