NCIC condemns chaos at All Saints Cathedral, warns against political intolerance
The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has slammed the disruption of a meeting that was held on June 12, 2026, in the Cathedral of All Saints in Nairobi and has cautioned of the dangers of political intolerance and organised violence to Kenya’s democracy and national unity ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a statement issued on Sunday, June 15, 2026, the commission said the attack reflected a worrying trend in which intimidation and goonism are increasingly being used as tools of political competition, undermining constitutional freedoms and public confidence in democratic institutions.
Chair of the Commission Kepha Omae said that any action to disturb an orderly meeting or to prevent the expression of divergent views by intimidation or violence is a direct challenge to the Constitution and the democratic principles that hold the country together.
“Any attempt to disrupt lawful gatherings or silence differing opinions through intimidation or violence is a direct affront to the Constitution and the democratic values that bind our nation together,” said the commission’s chair, Kepha Omae.

The NCIC has said that the contest should be based on ideas, policies and mutually respectful debate, but not on any means of coercion, violence or fear. The commission called upon the political leadership, political parties and their followers to preserve peace and observe the rule of law.
The commission also warned against violence that has been recorded in past elections, which resulted in loss of life, displacement and divisions in society, urging the youths not to be tempted into political violence and criminal activities.
The energy and leadership of Kenya’s youth are, therefore, used most effectively when channelled into strengthening the democracy and inclusive development of the country, and not division or disorder.
NCIC also urged citizens, the media, civil society organisations and religious leaders to foster dialogue, tolerance and mutual respect.

NCIC calls for investigations
It called for the speedy and impartial investigation of all political violence incidents by law enforcement and assured the enhancement of monitoring, conflict prevention and civic education initiatives as the nation gears up for the 2027 elections.
Besides, NCIC will scale up the civic education initiatives to sensitise people about constitutional rights, democratic values, responsible leadership and lawful and peaceful resolution of conflict.
The commission said those are all steps designed to strengthen a culture of dialogue over confrontation and unity over division.
