Millie Odhiambo’s reflections on politics ignite talk of party positioning
Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has once again found herself at the centre of ODM political discussion after a series of social media posts on Saturday, July 4, 2026, triggered fresh interpretation about her position within the party.
The posts, which focused on political purpose, loyalty and leadership culture, quickly attracted attention in ODM circles already dealing with internal tension linked to the Linda Mwananchi movement associated with Edwin Sifuna and Babu Owino.
While Odhiambo did not announce any political shift, her remarks have fuelled speculation online, especially after several social media accounts circulated claims that she could be leaning towards the Linda Mwananchi side.
The phrase “Word in the corridors of power is that Millie Odhiambo is set to join the Linda Mwananchi group” appears to have originated from a Facebook post shared on July 4, 2026. The wording was framed as speculation rather than confirmed information. No mainstream report or official statement has confirmed that Odhiambo is joining the group.
Still, the rumours did not emerge in isolation.
For months, Odhiambo has occupied a unique space within ODM politics. She has defended Sifuna during internal disputes, criticised factional hostility and repeatedly called for unity inside the party. At the same time, she has consistently insisted that she does not belong to either the Linda Ground or Linda Mwananchi camps.
That balancing act has earned her the label of a political “fence-sitter” from some ODM figures. Odhiambo, however, appears comfortable with that description.
In her Saturday, July 4, 2026 Facebook post, she reflected on the reasons people join politics. She listed several motivations, including wealth, recognition, service, family pressure and political intrigue.
“My first lesson to candidates and students is always to interrogate why you join politics because the answer to this question determines how you engage in politics,” she wrote.
She added: “I get amused when people want me to play politics in a manner that does not resonate with the PURPOSE I joined politics.”
The most politically loaded part of the statement came at the end.
“For clarity, this is not a declaration of my stand East or West. Just a declaration of my fence philosophy,” she wrote.

That phrase immediately sparked political interpretation within ODM circles.
Fresh debate over positioning
Hours later, Odhiambo posted again, this time joking about children discussing politics and term limits.
“Even those without kura are giving term limits,” she wrote.
The conversation under the post included comments referring to ODM figures such as Gladys Wanga, Caroli Omondi and Treasury CS John Mbadi in relation to “Wantam” style political messaging.
The discussion comes barely weeks after she publicly restated her neutral position following the disbandment of the ODM-linked Linda Ground faction.
At the time, she wrote: “I said clearly that I am not in ODM Linda Ground or ODM Linda Mwananchi but in ODM.”
She also questioned criticism from those who labelled her a fence-sitter, asking whether she was now “fence-sitting or fence-leaping.”
Throughout the ODM wrangles, Odhiambo has largely avoided taking a hard factional position. She opposed attempts to remove Sifuna from his secretary general role but also criticised slogans such as “Wantam” and “Tutam” that deepened divisions inside the party.
ODM continues to manage internal pressure ahead of the 2027 General Election, with leaders trying to balance party unity, generational change and grassroots mobilisation. The Linda Mwananchi movement has remained active through rallies and youth mobilisation, while the official ODM leadership has pushed for consolidation after months of internal tension.
Within that environment, Odhiambo’s “fence philosophy” appears less like indecision and more like a deliberate political strategy. For now, however, there is no public evidence that she plans to leave ODM or formally join Linda Mwananchi.
