The race for continental glory begins as the Kenya Morans step onto the pitch in Mauritius to kick off their 2025 Rugby Africa 7s Men’s Cup campaign on Saturday, June 21, 2025.

The tournament, running from Saturday, June 21, to Sunday, June 22, brings together Africa’s top rugby sevens teams in a battle for supremacy, and Kenya is eyeing nothing less than the crown.

Eyes on Mauritius

At the scenic Labourdonnais Sports Club, the Morans will launch their Pool A journey against the Ivory Coast.

The action will come thick and fast, with two more crucial clashes lined up against Ghana and defending champions Uganda.

It’s a stacked group, but the Morans aren’t strangers to pressure. Having last lifted the Africa 7s title in 2023, they return with a strong blend of rising stars and seasoned players eager to restore Kenya’s dominance on the continental stage.

The battle ahead

Led by co-captains George Ooro and Chrisant Ojwang, the Kenyan squad enters the competition as one of the top contenders.

Yet, standing in their way are familiar foes, Uganda, whose tenacity has made them a formidable force, and Ghana, a side on the rise with impressive form in recent outings.

Côte D’Ivoire, Kenya’s first opponents, may not have the same pedigree, but in sevens rugby, a few good runs can flip the script. The Morans must be alert from the first whistle, especially in a high-stakes, single-weekend format where every point matters.

The Kenyan camp has made it clear: they’re not just here to participate; they’re here to win it back. Head coach Kisia’s rallying cry earlier in the week said it all: “We want it back.” The squad has been fine-tuning in camp with one goal in mind: reclaim the African crown and inspire confidence heading into global competitions later in the year.

As the tournament gets underway, all eyes will be on how the Morans navigate the pool and whether they can convert preparation into podium glory. For Kenyan fans, today marks the beginning of what could be another memorable chapter in the nation’s sevens legacy.
