James Orengo’s supporter critically injured in panga attack
Siaya Governor James Orengo has claimed that his supporter, Kevin Dooso, is fighting for his life after being attacked with a panga inside his home.
In a statement on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, Orengo said armed men broke into Dooso’s house, took his mobile phones and laptop and seriously injured him.
“Last night, my heart broke speaking with my dedicated supporter, Kevin Dooso.
“Armed goons, accompanied by men believed to be police officers, broke into his home, took away his phones and laptop, and brutally hacked him with a panga, leaving him for dead,” Orengo said.
The governor did not disclose where the attack occurred or the hospital where Dooso was receiving treatment.

Orengo links attack to political activities
Orengo said Dooso was targeted because of his political position and support for his cause.
“Kevin’s only ‘crime’ was having the courage to speak truth to power and stand by our cause,” he said.
He warned that attacks targeting people over their political views were pushing the country towards lawlessness.
“When speaking up for change puts a target on your back in your own home, we are sliding into dangerous lawlessness just as it began in the Caribbean island,” Orengo said.
“This is an attack on all of us who dream of a better future.”
Orengo asks Kenyans to pray for Dooso

Orengo asked Kenyans to keep Dooso in their prayers as he continued receiving medical care.
“Please join me in keeping Kevin in your thoughts and prayers as he fights for his life,” he said.
“We cannot, and will not, let this brutal attempt to silence us succeed.”
The National Police Service and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations had not publicly responded to Orengo’s statement by the time of publication. No arrests had also been announced in connection with the attack.
Still on matters to do with goons, EALA MP Kanini Kega has recounted how he narrowly escaped an attack along the Ol Kalou–Nyahururu road, saying armed men he believed to be police officers attempted to kill or abduct him.
Kega said the incident occurred at about 6:10pm as he left a Democracy for Citizens Party campaign event in Ol Kalou ahead of Thursday’s by-election.
“I was driving along the Ol Kalou–Nyahururu road when a white double-cab D-Max abruptly stopped in front of us. One person got out and pointed a pistol at me,” Kega said.
“My driver swerved and sped off.”
