Kenya Cup side Menengai Oilers have confirmed that Simba’s Brian Ndirangu has moved to Canada.

The back row, after seven years with the Kenyan outfit, has made a switch that will see him ply trade in the North American nation.

“The club confirms that after seven years of service, our most-capped player and one of our longest-serving members of the team, Brian Ndirangu, has left the club for Canada,” Menegai Oilers said in a statement on their social media pages.

Ndirangu recalled his time at the Nakuru-based club with nostalgia and great memories.

“At the club, I have learnt that you do not have to be the biggest or the fastest; you just have to have the will, determination, and discipline to learn, and everything you set your eyes on is achievable.

“I have had seven incredible years with one team, one coach, and incredible teammates,” he said, as quoted by the club.

Ndirangu’s inspirational figures

Ndirangu also pointed out key figures who played phenomenal roles during his stint with Oilers.

“I have also had an amazing working and personal relationship with Coach Gibson Weru and his staff.

“To the fans, I will definitely miss you and the atmosphere at the refinery during home games and the derby. To my teammates who have been incredible to me over the years, I will always carry you in my heart,” he added.

The experienced star played 108 games for Menengai Oilers and was also the first-ever Menengai Oilers captain, leading a young team that had just been formed in 2016.

“He has gone ahead to become a key player for us and the National 15s team, the Simbas.

“As a club, we wish him the very best, and may he spread the gospel of ‘Champagne Rugby’ in Canada,” Oilers added as they praised their former skipper.

Weru lauded his former star, who also happened to have been his teammate before his appointment as coach.

“Brian is a player who served us well, and when he informed me of the opportunity he has, I was happy for him. This is an opportunity for him to develop as a player and to also grow as a man.

“We have mixed reactions; we will miss his services as an experienced player. We have developed him from the Nationwide League all the way to being a consistent player for the Simbas. We wish him all the best, and we are sure he will come back at some point as a better player,'” Weru said.

He is set to link up with Westshore Rugby in Victoria, Canada.
