Salim Babu steers Police to victory against his former struggling side Nzoia Sugar
Salim Babu reins at Kenya Police gathered another positive outcome after a 2-0 Football Kenya Federation Premier League win against Nzoia Sugar on Sunday.
Kenya Police have been resurgent since the sacking of Zdravko Logarusic, and a victory against former Salim Babu’s employers ensured they collected three more points in the second round of the season.
Kenneth Muguna and Tito Okello, both former players at Gor Mahia, scored at the Kenya Police Pavillion to condemn the Sugar Millers to another loss.
Meanwhile, the Cops came close to breaking the deadlock in the 20th minute, but Alvin Mangeni saw his effort fly over the bar from a promising spot.
Victor Haki and Elisha Wekesa both had chances to put the visitors in front, but both of their shots flew wide.
Goals, chances
Fred Shiundu brought down Police’s David Okoth three minutes after the hour mark, and that gave the home side the chance for a lead. Muguna took on the penalty-conversion duties and managed to beat Shiundu for the opener.
Okoth had a chance to add his name to the scoresheet, but he could not beat Shiundu in the 40th minute after being set through on goal by Muguna.
However, Shiundu was beaten when Okello scored the second goal for Police. The Bright Stars’ forward rose high to meet Mangeni’s delivery and fire past the visiting goalkeeper.
In another one-on-one situation between Okoth and Shiundu, it was the latter that won the tussle after denying the former a chance to extend the lead further.
Elsewhere, Posta Rangers emerged as 1-0 winners over Murang’a Seal. This is the ninth victory for the Mailmen, who have failed to get back their best touch witnessed in the opening weeks of the season.
