The 2027 Jubilee Party presidential nominee, Fred Matiang’i, has sent a rallying call to the country’s youth to register as voters ahead of the fast-approaching 2027 general election.

Speaking at a public gathering on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, the former Interior Cabinet Secretary urged the nation’s younger population to take advantage of the resumed continuous voter registration exercise conducted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Matiang’i further advised that the youth are the drivers of change in the country, and that they can only do so at the ballot.

Rallying call!

”To the young people, my brothers and sisters, I encourage you to register as voters. As you prepare to travel upcountry later this month for the festive season, please take a moment to register and remind your peers and families to do the same. Your future, and that of our nation, depends on your participation,” the former CS said.

Fred Matiang’i also said registering as a voter among the youth is a sign of responsible citizenship. ”If we cannot vote in 2027, we will not change our lives. The only way to initiate change is through voting. Let us do so as faithful citizens to move our country forward.” He added.

Meanwhile, via a public notice released on Friday, December 5, 2027, IEBC has also confirmed the resumption of the continuous voter registration exercise in the areas that observed the November 27, 2025, by-elections.

Youth voter registration

”Register Today! Make your vote count as a youth. Register Now! Visit any IEBC Constituency Office near you to register. The Commission will resume Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in the November 27 by-elections areas after the statutory petition period has lapsed,” IEBC said via X.

As the youth are placed at the centre stage of the 2027 general election, Fred Matiang’i has spoken a day after IEBC chairperson Erastus Ethekon led a high-level Stakeholder Engagement Forum reviewing the November 27th By-Elections.

The gathering brought together representatives from political parties, observers, security agencies, civil society organisations, and the media. In his address, Ethekon provided an account of the electoral process. He outlined the Commission’s preparation efforts, including the recruitment and training of officials, the deployment of KIEMS kits, the enforcement of the Electoral Code of Conduct, and the management of multiple security environments across the 22 by-elections.
