Besides music, you have a great sense of fashion. How would you describe your style?

I describe my style in two words; classy and elegant. I’d also say the music industry has influenced me because as a brand, you have to look good and know what you are selling to your fans should be a full package. Mostly, the fabric and colour play a big role in my fashion sense.

What are your thoughts about the relationship between music and fashion?

These two go hand-in-hand. You can’t be a musician and dress shoddily. You have to always look good; after all, you are a brand and a brand has to be packaged well. Out there, your general outlook means a lot.

How does your style reveal your personality and lifestyle?

I am a sexy and curvaceous, but still very reserved. That obviously affects my style as I try going for sexy outfits. But I try as much as possible not to expose a lot of flesh. Ha-ha.

What’s your memorable fashion moment so far?

I am still green in these scenes and still experimenting. So, I cannot point to any standout moment thus far. Fashion wise, I am still discovering myself and I believe great experiences lay ahead.

What does wearing the wrong or right clothes one’s looks?

When you wear the right clothes, it speaks a lot of positive things about you and your personality. People respect and take you seriously and can easily define what kind of a person you are.

As an individual you also feel comfortable when you are in the right clothes. When in the wrong clothes, you feel out of place and this can affect attributes such as self-confidence.

What is the biggest mistake women make when shopping?

Going with the trend without having to consider their body type. You have to know what suits you and understand not everyone goes well with the trend because it’s not about what you wear, but how you wear it.

Does the business model of artistes owning clothing labels really work?

Owning a clothing label works, but you have to know your competitors. Also you should be able to define what makes your label special or catchy; is it the commodities or the style?

Do you have a personal designer or you are a ‘DIY’ type of an artiste?

If I was to, I would design for myself because I know my body and can never go wrong with choosing what suits me. As a matter of fact, I dress myself on my music videos.

What do you splurge mostly on?

Shoes and dresses. This is my special faculty.

What gives you that edgy A-game look?

Currently, it has to be my platinum blonde hair.

 Who are your favourite designers?

I don’t have any, but whoever is dressing Vanessa Mdee is doing a good job.

 What’s your general fashion advice?

 Dress good, feel good.
