Volleyball champions Cheptil dominate Kenya U20 volleyball squad for Egypt games
Reigning FEASSA Volleyball boys champions, Cheptil High School, have secured berths in the Kenya U20 provisional volleyball squad set to feature in the upcoming African Volleyball Championship in Egypt.
According to the provisional squad unveiled by the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) this Wednesday, September 3, 2025, the volleyball powerhouse has got the lion’s share of the squad along with the Kenya Administration Police Unit (KAPU) Volleyball team.
Among the players who join the team from the volleyball school are Bernard Kipchumba, Bethwel Kiplagat, Brian Kipruto and Justus Kibet.
Bungoma County’s Namwela High School has also contributed a pair, with Newton Ochieng and Wesley Kirui among those handed the nod by coach Luke Makuto.
Preparations
The team embarked on preparations this Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at the Nyayo Stadium. Ahead of the continental championship, scheduled to take place in Cairo, Egypt, from 11 to 21 September 2025.
The team will be under former Malava Boys coach Luke Makuto and will be assisted by Coach Gideon Njine.
Timothy Kimutai will join the team delegation as the physiotherapist, with Wachira Gatuiria and Alfred Chedotum also serving as team manager and head of delegation, respectively.
Replicating Junior Malkia’s feat
The junior team will be looking to replicate the feat achieved by the Kenyan ladies team, Junior Malkia Strikers, who set the tone after conquering the continent with victory in the girls’ competition held in Cameroon.
The girls achieved the feat after silencing host and traditional rival Cameroon on Monday, August 11, 2025, to bag the continental honours.
The Jackline Brasa-coached side had downed Egypt in 3-0 sets in a semifinal clash staged on Sunday, August 10, 2025, to advance to the finals.
