Egypt next

“The Junior Malkia Strikers are just one win away from the finals. This Sunday, August 10, 2025, they face Egypt in the Women’s U20 African Nations Volleyball Championship semifinals in Cameroon,” KVF said.

In the other semifinal, hosts Cameroon will face Senegal, with the winner set to take on Kenya or Egypt.

The clash comes as Jackline Barasa’s charges defeated the North Africans in their Match Day 5 encounter. The junior strikers edged the fancied rivals in a 3-1 set of 3-1 (25-21, 31-33, 25-19, 25-21).

Road to semis

The Malkia Strikers opened their campaign on a winning note, dispatching Senegal in three straight sets. The Kenyans recorded a set of wins of 13-25, 12-25, and 11-25 in the clash.

Hosts Cameroon handed them their first defeat on a 3-1 scoreline on match day 2 on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. The West African team narrowly edged out the Junior Malkia team in 3-1 sets.

The Kenya team, led by skipper Daisy Chepkirui and Terry Tata, started off the test by losing the first set 25-18 but bounced back well to claim back-to-back wins in the second and third sets, thus forcing a decisive fourth set.

The girls were, however, not lucky, as Cameroon halted their resurgence on a 25-17 scoreline to end their quest for a third win.

In a show of regional might, the East African side bounced back to beat their neigbourly rivals Uganda before securing a spot in the semi-finals after beating Burundi in straight sets of 25-8, 25-17, and 25-13.

If Kenya passes the Egyptians’ test, they will secure a place in the finals of the continental games on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

Barasa and his emerging stars will look for the inspiration of Captain Terry Tata, who has been an inspirational figure in the tournament.

The KCB player has won two Most Valuable Player accolades in Kenya’s preliminary games and will be a crucial figure in extending the team’s cruising form.

Eddah Jepkemei, who had a standout game against Burundi, bagging the MVP after the final whistle, is another star the young team will hope extends her brilliance in the clash.
