Kenya’s U20 volleyball team to take part in African Championship
The Kenya U20 Men’s Volleyball team is set to compete at the 2025 African Nations Volleyball Championship to be held in Egypt.
The competition is set to start in the coming month of September, with the Wafalme Juniors among the teams confirmed for the continental championship, according to an update from the male volleyball team.
Technical bench
According to an update from the men’s senior volleyball team, Wafalme, this Saturday, August 30, 2025, the team to do duty will embark on preparations beginning Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Nyayo Stadium.
Coach Luke Makuto will be in charge of the team and will be assisted by Coach Gideon Njine.
The pair will be in charge of selecting the squad from the recently concluded regional volleyball championship, where the likes of Cheptil High School, Gogo, Mwaluphamba, and Malava dominated in the boys category.
Timothy Kimutai will join the team delegation as the physiotherapist, with Wachira Gatuiria and Alfred Chedotum also serving as team manager and head of delegation, respectively.

The championship will not only offer the chance for the upcoming team to compete against continental peers but also eye qualification for the 2026 U21 World Championship.
Replicating Junior Malkia’s feat
The men’s participation comes after the Kenyan ladies team, Junior Malkia Strikers, set the tone after conquering the continent with victory in the girls’ competition held in Cameroon.
The girls achieved the feat after silencing host and traditional rival Cameroon on Monday, August 11, 2025, to bag the continental honours.
The Jackline Brasa-coached side had downed Egypt in 3-0 sets in a semifinal clash staged on Sunday, August 10, 2025, to advance to the finals.
The feat also saw them secure qualification to the Women’s U20 World Championship to be held later next year.
