Omanyala’s fine form continues as he breaks another national record
Africa 100m record holder Ferdinand Omanyala’s fine form at the indoor competition continued on Thursday night after he once again broke his National Record in 60m indoor in France.
Omanyala was timed 6.57 seconds finishing fourth at the Meeting dubbed Hauts-de- France Pas-de-Calais and which was held in Lievin.
Omanyala had won his semi-final heat in 6.63 before losing to Olympic 100m champion in Italian Jacobs Marcell, who won in a time of 6.50 as Cravont Charleston and Elijah Hall from the United States timed 6.52 and 6.57 to finish second and third respectively.
“It’s been a great experience, this being my first outing indoors. I’m glad I am picking the much-needed pace that made me come here in the first place. Breaking the national record thrice here gives me great pleasure,” said Omanyala.
Six days ago, Omanyala had shuttered the national record en route to winning at Meeting Metz Monselle Athlelor in France when he reached the finishing tape after 6.60 seconds.
The 26-year-old broke the National Record the first time on February 4, 2022, when he won the Meeting Elite de Miramas in France after clocking 6.63 thus shattering the previous national record of 6.70 set by Paulvince Obuon in 2005.
Omanyala reiterated that he went to the World Indoor Tour to have fun and refine his speed and make better of his off-blocks performance.
“I now feel ripe for the World Indoor Championship next month, but I still need to go back to the drawing board to ascertain which areas need fixing,” said Omanyala.
