Ferdinand Omanyala and Nelly Chepchirchir are among the stars that will fly Kenya’s flag during the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold season in Zagreb, Croatia, on Sunday, September 8, 2024.

An attack on the men’s world 1000m record is among the top goals the participants will be looking to shatter.

Kenya’s Daniel Munguti will be in action in the 2000m and he will compete against USA’s Cooper Teare and Belgium’s Isaac Kimeli. Elsewhere, world fourth-place finisher Leonard Bett of Kenya races the 3000m steeplechase against Olympic finalists Ahmed Jaziri of Tunisia and Morocco’s Mohamed Tindouft.

Australia’s Linden Hall, who has run 3:56.40 this season, lines up in the women’s 1500m alongside Ethiopia’s Axumawit Embaye and Habitam Alemu, plus Britain’s Katie Snowden and Italy’s Sintayehu Vissa, according to World Athletics.

In the women’s 800m, Chepchirchir will race Jamaica’s Natoya Goule-Toppin races and the USA’s Sage Hurta-Klecker.

Omanyala will be in action to face USA’s Courtney Lindsey, Brandon Hicklin, and Kyree King in the men’s 100m.

In the women’s 100m, Gina Mariam Bass Bittaye of The Gambia will be up against Jamaica’s Shashalee Forbes and USA’s Jenna Prandini.

Arop in action

Canada’s Marco Arop, who is the world 800m champion, will take a step up to target the world 1000m record. He currently sits fourth on the world all-time list for his specialism, having run a North American 800m record of 1:41.20 to secure Olympic silver in Paris. Now he aims to improve his 1000m personal best of 2:14.35 set in Monaco in 2022.

He also hopes to challenge the world record of 2:11.96 set by Kenya’s Noah Ngeny in Rieti in 1999.

Arop has dipped under 1:42 for 800m three times this season, including 1:41.72 in Lausanne and 1:41.86 in Silesia, and he ran 2:14.74 for 1000m indoors in February, putting him at No. 2 all-time indoors.
