Kibera Women’s Soccer Club goalkeeper Vivian Shiyonzo has set her sights on clinching the Kenya Women’s Premier League (KWPL) trophy and the league’s best keeper accolade in the upcoming season.

Speaking after leading her team to the Football Kenya Federation Shield Cup success over Vihiga United on Saturday, June 28, 2025, the shot stopper revealed she will hunt for the double.

Shiyonzo also reflected on her team’s journey to the silverware success, expressing her relief after the alterations by coach David Vijago proved pivotal in changing the tide of the game.

Adhiambo the hero

Stella Adhiambo, a second-half substitute, notched home the decisive goal to see the club clinch its maiden silverware in the top flight.

“We are happy, even though we lost the league title, we have managed to get the trophy to wrap up our season on a winning note,” she stated.

We found the proceedings tough, and we could not get past our opponents. Our substitutions managed to change the game for us and inspired us to the late win,” she added.

With the trophy now safely bagged, Shiyonzo has shifted her focus to next season with higher ambitions in what will be her third season with the slum-based team.

“I’m looking forward to winning the best goalkeeper award next season. It will be my third season, and I am sure we will lift the league too,” she revealed.

Meanwhile, speaking after the triumph, coach Vijago welcomed the win despite admitting that his charges were not at their best in the final clash.

“It has been a tough game of chances and luck. We wanted to win the league, but we lost on our way. We finished third, and it was all down to the commitment of these players.

Vijago’s sentiments

Today we didn’t play as well as we had planned. I believe the luck was on our side, as our opponents had their chances too. It happened that we emerged the victors,” he said.

Meanwhile, Shiyonzo’s teammate and Harambee Stars striker Faith Mboya was named as the FKF Women’s Cup Most Valuable Player (MVP) following the conclusion of the domestic campaign.

The accolade capped off a fine season following her exploits with the Harambee Starlets team that bagged silver in the concluded CECAFA Women’s Challenge Cup in Tanzania.
