Kibera Soccer crowned champions of FKF Women’s Cup
Kibera Soccer Women’s team are the new champions of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women’s Cup.
The Kibera-based club edged Vihiga United 1-0 to clinch the 2025 edition of the domestic cup and their maiden trophy, thanks to a late goal from Stella Adhiambo.
The substitute struck home from a Faith Mboya cross after Vihiga failed to clear their lines to seal the title for David Vijago’s team, who claimed their maiden top-flight silverware in the women’s league since their promotion to the league in 2023.
Cagey encounter
The contest staged in Nakuru’s Afraha Grounds panned out on a cagey note, as an exciting midfield battle ensued between the sides.
In what marks an impressive run from the slum-based club in the campaign, Kibera edged defending champions Ulinzi Starlets in a dramatic penalty shootout in the quarterfinal stage.

Before eliminating Ulinzi Starlets, the military ladies’ team had won the domestic cup on three occasions, with an upset from their rivals, ensuring the new winner of the competition for this year’s edition.
The club extended the fine run by slaying Police Bullets FC in the semifinal stage to set up a clash against Vihiga Queens, who beat Bungoma Queens in the other semifinal clash.
Vijago on the win
Speaking after the win, Kibera Soccer coach Vijago welcomed the win despite admitting that his charges were not at their best in the final clash.
“It has been a tough game of chances and luck. We wanted to win the league, but we lost on our way. We finished third, and it was all down to the commitment of these players.
Today we didn’t play as well as we had planned. I believe the luck was on our side, as our opponents had their chances too. It happened that we emerged the victors,” he said.
Tournament awards
In addition to the win, Kibera’s striker Faith Mboya, who provided the assist for the all-important goal, was voted the competition’s Most Valuable Player.
Her teammate, custodian Vivian Shiyonzo was named the best keeper of the competition, while Diana Cherono of Vihiga Queens emerged as the best scorer, taking home the golden boot award.
The accolade comes off her fine season with the Harambee Starlets team in the concluded CECAFA Women’s Challenge Cup in Tanzania.
