June 8, 2025: Top news events to look out for today

Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.

Kindiki in Thika Town

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is expected to lead a delegation of politicians to an economic empowerment drive at Thika Town this Sunday.

The event at the MKU Pavilion Square, the latest of the ongoing initiatives geared towards improving the people’s livelihoods at the grassroots, will see the return of the DP and his entourage to the outskirts of Nairobi after camping in Ukambani on Saturday, June 7, 2025.

The entourage will be hosted by the Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a, who will be in the company of the Majority Leaders in both the Senate and National Assembly, Aaron Cheruiyot and Kimani Ichungw’ah.

Other leaders to grace the event include MPs Njuguna Kawanjiku (Kiambaa), John Kiragu (Limuru), and Gabriel Kagombe (Gatundu South), among others.

KPA VS GSU Showdown

The decisive set of the Kenya Volleyball Men’s playoff finals will go down this Sunday, June 8, 2025, at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.

The clash pitting archrivals GSU and Kenya Ports Authority team is tied 1-1 after the Portsmen fought back to level the series in Saturday’s Game 2 meeting with a 3-1 set win, forcing the game to the decisive Game 3 decider.

The winner-takes-it-all clash will kick off at 3:00 pm.

FKF Women’s Cup

The semifinal of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women’s Cup will be staged this Sunday, June 8 , 2025.

The last four standing teams will battle it out to determine the competition’s new winners after Ulinzi Starlets were bundled out in the semifinals stage in the current edition.

Kibera Soccer Women’s will face Kenya Police Bullets FC in the first semifinal as per the draw revealed this Wednesday, June 4, 2026.

The clash will be staged at the Dandora Stadium starting at 1:00 pm.

In another semifinal tie, former KWPL champions Vihiga Queens will face off against Bungoma Queens in Mumias Complex in the much-billed Western Derby.

The clash will kick off at 1:00 pm.
