Boniface Ambani elected new AFC Leopards chairman
Former AFC Leopards striker and youth team coach Boniface Ngaira Ambani has been elected the clubโs new chairman, taking over from Dan Shikanda whose term has ended.
The elections, held during a special general meeting on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at the Moi International Sports Centre (MISC), Kasarani Indoor Arena, also saw a complete overhaul of the club’s top leadership.
Ambani received a total of 1,101 votes, defeating Enos Mutoka, who secured 647 votes. Voting was conducted across four polling stations between 8:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., with Ambani leading in each.
The election, overseen by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), also allowed Leopards members to choose a new secretary general and treasurer for the next three-year term.
Notably, all outgoing officials opted not to seek re-election, paving the way for a complete leadership overhaul.
Secretary General
Isaac Mulanda Mulindi emerged victorious, defeating Irine Wekesa Sitawa and Robert Omusawa Khamala in a hotly contested race.
Treasurer
Newton Lime Luchacha clinched the seat, overcoming rivals Edwin Chamwada Buhasho and Patrick Kanyangi Logedi.
Ambani, who played a pivotal role in AFC Leopards’ last league title win in 1998, vowed to return the club to its former glory.

The former striker, who also played for Tusker FC, Yanga SC, and clubs in India and Oman, brings both experience and ambition to the role. His recent stint as sporting director at Mara Sugar FC saw the club gain promotion to the FKF Premier League.
The newly elected Ingwe officials face several pressing challenges, including the absence of a consistent revenue stream and the lack of a permanent training groundโissues that have long hindered the teamโs performance.
Ambaniโs manifesto focuses on financial sustainability through merchandising, sponsorships, and fan engagement. He also emphasised inclusivity by pledging equal support for both the men’s and women’s teams.
