Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has expressed confidence that President William Ruto will secure re-election in the 2027 General Election even without the support of the Mt Kenya West region.

Speaking alongside other Kenya Kwanza leaders at AIC Kabaratonjo in Baringo North Constituency, Baringo County, on Sunday, July 19, 2026, Ruku said government development projects are visible across the country, accusing the opposition of attempting to sow discord despite the ongoing implementation of public programmes.

“We will not allow propagandists to mislead Kenyans when government projects are evident for all to see,” he said.

Why votes from one region does not matter

Ruku argued that President Ruto’s re-election would not depend solely on votes from Mt Kenya West, citing the 2013 General Election in which former President Uhuru Kenyatta defeated Raila Odinga by a margin of about 80,000 votes despite receiving overwhelming support from the Mt Kenya region.

He called on young people to acquire national identification cards and register as voters to support President Ruto’s bid for a second term.

The Cabinet Secretary further said leaders from the eastern side of the Mt Kenya region would remain in government and continue working with the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“It is the West that has chosen to walk alone. As the East, we will remain in government and chart our way forward,” he said.

Dismissing Gachagua’s political stand in the region

Ruku also dismissed the influence of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in the region, saying they would not allow him to extend his political influence to the eastern side of Mt Kenya.

Referring to the political significance of Ol Kalou, Ruku said the area had previously defied former President Daniel arap Moi in the 1995 by-election, but that did not stop Moi from winning subsequent national elections.

“The same will happen in 2027. President William Ruto will win resoundingly as we work together with other regions that support him and his deputy, Prof. Kithure Kindiki,” he said.
