Ol Kalou Member of Parliament-elect Sammy Kamau Ngotho has urged President William Ruto to dismiss Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, arguing that the country’s security docket requires leadership capable of ensuring peaceful elections.

Speaking in an interview with a local TV station on Sunday, July 19, 2026, Ngotho accused the government of failing to maintain law and order during the polls, claiming that armed gangs were allowed to intimidate voters. He has urged the president to take decisive action to safeguard peace and restore public confidence ahead of the 2027 general election.

“The President, you owe it to Kenya to have a peaceful country; we don’t want to go the Haitian way. It is such a shame to see goons running on Election Day with arms. Please call the house to order. Sack the CS for Interior, Murkomen, and bring in someone sober,” Kamau said.

The MP-elect has warned that the violence witnessed during the by-elections in Ol Kalou could undermine Kenya’s democratic credentials if not addressed promptly.

Kamau urges peaceful transition in 2027

Kamau has further challenged President Ruto to focus on guaranteeing a peaceful transfer of power, saying that would be one of his most important responsibilities regardless of his administration’s economic record.

“President Ruto, you have a big mandate. You may not perform economically. You owe it to Kenyans to have a peaceful transition come 2027. Most probably, you are going home in 2027,” he stated.

The newly elected Democracy for the Citizens party (DCP) MP-elect has maintained that Kenyans deserve elections conducted in a secure environment free from intimidation, violence and the influence of armed groups.

His remarks come amid heightened political tensions following the recent by-election in which two people were reported dead, with opposition leaders accusing the government of failing to prevent election-related violence.

The government, on the other hand, has maintained that security agencies acted within the law to preserve peace and order.
