Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has dismissed calls for President William Ruto to remove Cabinet Secretaries from the Mt Kenya region following the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) defeat in the Ol Kalou by-election.

Speaking to journalists on Sunday, July 19, 2026, Sudi said decisions on Cabinet appointments rest solely with President Ruto, but maintained that he would oppose any move to dismiss ministers from the region.

His remarks came after he was asked to respond to suggestions by a section of political analyst that the President should consider dropping some Mt Kenya Cabinet Secretaries and instead appoint leaders from other parts of the country following the election outcome.

Sudi said while everyone is entitled to their opinion, only the President has the constitutional mandate to appoint or dismiss Cabinet Secretaries.

“Maoni ya Mutahi Ngunyi ni sawa… lakini mimi siandiki Mawaziri. Ule mtu anaandika Mawaziri ni mtu mmoja anaitwa William Ruto,” he said.

Why CS should not be removed

The UDA lawmaker, however, made it clear that if the decision were his, he would not support removing any Cabinet Secretary from the Mt Kenya region.

“Kama ingekuwa mimi, Sudi, singekubali mtu yeyote wa Mlima Kenya atolewe kwa kiti kwa sababu ile kiti William Ruto anakalia kwa sasa, watu walichangia mali kubwa ni watu wa Mlima Kenya,” he said.

Sudi argued that the region played a decisive role in President Ruto’s 2022 election victory and therefore deserved continued representation in government.

“Watu wa Mlima Kenya ndio walifanya William Ruto akakuwa Rais wa Kenya. So wako na haki ya maendeleo, wako na haki ya hiyo nafasi. Hata kama nafasi nyingine ikipatikana waongezewe,” he added.

He said he does not believe President Ruto would remove Mt Kenya leaders from government, insisting the region has earned its place in the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Govt in Mt Kenya projects

Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has also assured Ol Kalou residents that government development projects in the constituency will continue despite the outcome of the parliamentary by-election, where Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru defeated UDA’s Samuel Muchina Nyagah by a margin of nearly 30,000 votes in one of the country’s most closely followed mini-polls in recent times.

In a statement shared on Saturday, July 18, 2026, Kuria said he had called MP-elect Kamau Ngotho to congratulate him on his victory, noting that the people of Ol Kalou had made their decision.

“I have assured Hon Ngotho that NONE of the projects will stop,” Kuria said.
