Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has assured Ol Kalou residents that government development projects in the constituency will continue despite the outcome of the parliamentary by-election, where Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru defeated UDA’s Samuel Muchina Nyagah by a margin of nearly 30,000 votes in one of the country’s most closely followed mini-polls in recent times.

In a statement shared on Saturday, July 18, 2026, Kuria said he had called MP-elect Kamau Ngotho to congratulate him on his victory, noting that the people of Ol Kalou had made their decision.

“I have assured Hon Ngotho that NONE of the projects will stop,” Kuria said.

Nyandarua University, roads projects to continue

Kuria said the construction of Nyandarua University would continue, alongside the tarmacking of the Ithagani-Nyaituga-Ngorika-Kanyiriti road and the Lake Olbolosat access road.

He also assured residents that the Nairobi-Gilgil-Ol Kalou-Nyahururu railway service would continue operating daily for cargo and on Tuesdays and Fridays for passengers.

36 electrification projects to be completed

According to Kuria, all 36 electrification projects in the constituency will be completed, including the metering of homes already connected to the power supply.

He added that water connection programmes by the Central Rift Water Works Agency and Ol Kalou Water Company would continue, while 20,000 LPG gas cylinders would be refilled through retail shops designated by the National Oil Corporation of Kenya.

Kuria further said the 100,000 avocado seedlings distributed to farmers would, once mature, support exports to China.

Housing, markets and digital hubs to remain

The former CS said ongoing projects, including the Mashujaa Wing at JM Kariuki Hospital, Ol Kalou Stadium, affordable housing projects and Rurii TVET hostels, would be completed.

He also listed the modernisation of Ol Kalou retail and wholesale markets, Mirangine markets, five ward-based digital hubs and the continuation of Climate Workx employment contracts among projects that would proceed.

“The people of Ol Kalou have spoken and it is clear Kamau Ngotho has the overwhelming support of the people of Ol Kalou,” Kuria said.

He also assured residents that smartboards and laptop teaching aids in schools would remain in use, while irrigation projects around Gwa Kiongo Dam and Blue Economy initiatives in Gwa Kiongo, Githunguri and Lake Ol Bolosat would continue.

“In a nutshell, both democracy and development will win because elections are not a matter of life and death,” Kuria said.
