DAP-Kenya party leader Eugene Wamalwa has extended a political lifeline to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna following his removal as the ODM Secretary-General and subsequent ouster from Senate leadership, urging the embattled lawmaker to join DAP-Kenya.

Speaking during a burial ceremony in Kitale on Saturday, July 18, 2026, Wamalwa said Sifuna had been sidelined within ODM and assured him that he would be welcomed into DAP-Kenya.

“Lakini ndugu yetu Sifuna jana amefukuzwa kwa uongozi wa bunge la seneti. Hapo mbeleni, alikuwa amenyang’anywa tena uongozi wa Secretary General ya chama cha ODM. Tena ametolewa kwa kamati pale kwenye bunge. Leo tunamwambia kijana wetu Sifuna tuki mkakaribisha nyumbani. Wiki ijayo yeye anaambiwa ‘akufukuzaye hakuambii nini? Toka.'”

Why Sifuna is facing attacks

Wamalwa suggested that Sifuna had fallen out of favour in ODM following the departure of party leader Raila Odinga from active party affairs.

“Imeonekana tangu Baba aende, alikuwa babako wa kisiasa, alikuwa hiyo mentor, now you are unwanted in ODM. Sisi wana-DAP Kenya, tunamkaribisha kijana wetu Sifuna. Kama hawamtaki huko, waache arudi nyumbani tutembee.”

The former Cabinet Secretary said the opposition should be allowed to campaign freely as the country heads towards the next General Election.

He also challenged the government to guarantee security for all Kenyans and ensure political activities are conducted peacefully.

“We are entering the election year, and what we want to urge is for people to be allowed to do peaceful campaigns. Tuwe na amani kwa taifa letu.”

“Lakini kwa serikali, jukumu muhimu sana kwa serikali ni kuhakikisha kuna amani, kuna usalama wa kutosha, na kila Mkenya analindwa maisha yake na mali yake popote anapoishi.”
