Wamalwa: Gachagua’s court battle was never about money
DAP-Kenya party leader Eugene Wamalwa has rubbished the Ksh50 million compensation awarded to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua by the Senate following the High Court ruling, arguing that the petition was never about money but about justice.
Speaking during an interview with local media stations on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, the outspoken former defence minister expressed dissatisfaction with the High Court’s decision to uphold the Senate’s impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua, maintaining that justice was not served to the Democracy for Citizens (DCP) leader.

“Gachagua hakuenda koti kutafuta pesa, alienda kutafuta haki,” Wamalwa stated.
He went on to say that the issue of the Ksh50 million award would also form part of the appeal before the Court of Appeal, expressing confidence that the appellate court would give them justice and examine the matter more keenly than the High Court.
Wamalwa has also dismissed the notion that the ruling had sealed Gachagua’s political future or condemned him to political irrelevance.
According to Wamalwa, the judgement has instead awakened the former deputy president and positioned him as a key player in the run-up to the 2027 general election.
“And those saying that Gachagua has been finished – he has now become stronger politically.”
Wamalwa, who together with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka camped at Gachagua’s Karen residence as they followed the impeachment proceedings up to the final ruling, intimated that the former deputy president feels betrayed by President William Ruto, a man he says Gachagua significantly helped ascend to power in 2022.

Speaking after the judgement, on Monday, June 8, 2026, Maina said the case had never been about money but rather about safeguarding the Constitution and ensuring that public institutions adhere to the rule of law.
Njeri maina’s argument
She maintained that the legal team moved to court in pursuit of justice and to defend the constitutional principles that Kenyans endorsed in 2010 and not about the money.
“We’re not here for the money. It is not about the money. It is not about the money. It is about the integrity of the Constitution of Kenya. It is about the integrity of the processes that are undertaken by institutions that are governed by law.
