Ol Kalou MP-elect Sammy Kamau pledges to serve all after by-election victory
Ol Kalou MP-elect Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru has expressed gratitude to the constituency’s residents after being declared the winner of the parliamentary by-election, pledging to serve all residents regardless of their political affiliation.
In a message issued on his X social media handles after receiving his certificate of election on Friday. July 17, 2026, Kamau said he was deeply humbled by the overwhelming support he received from voters, describing the victory as both an honour and a responsibility.
“Receiving this certificate of election is not just a personal milestone; it is a solemn responsibility to serve every resident with integrity, humility, and dedication,” Kamau said.

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate thanked God for guiding him throughout the campaign period and acknowledged the support he received from party leaders, supporters and campaign teams.
“My sincere gratitude goes to H.E. Rigathi Gachagua and Pastor Dorcas Rigathi for their prayers, encouragement, and unwavering support. I also thank the entire DCP family; my brother and friend, DCP Secretary General Senator Kaba Methu; Wanjiku Muhia; our elected leaders; fellow aspirants; the campaign team; volunteers; agents; and every supporter who stood with us from the beginning to the end,” Kamau stated.
He reserved special appreciation for the people of Ol Kalou, saying the victory belonged to them and reflected their confidence in his vision for the constituency.
“To the great people of Ol Kalou, thank you for believing in our vision and giving us such an overwhelming mandate. This victory belongs to all of us,” he said.
Kamau pledges to work with competitors
Kamau also extended an olive branch to residents who supported rival candidates, assuring them that he would represent every voter equally now that the election was over.
“To those who supported other candidates, I extend my respect and assure you that I will serve everyone equally, regardless of political affiliation. The campaigns are over; now the work of transforming Ol Kalou begins,” he added.

The MP-elect concluded by calling for unity and invoking blessings upon Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County and the country as he prepares to assume office.
IEBC declares Kamau’s victory
Sammy Douglas Waweru Kamau has been declared the winner of the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election after securing a commanding 35,440 votes, defeating United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Samuel Muchina Nyaga, who garnered 5,450 votes.
The results, announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after the vote counting on Thursday, July 16, 2026, saw Jubilee Party candidate Wilson Kigwa finish third. Kamau’s victory concludes a fiercely contested race that attracted national attention and was widely viewed as a political contest between President William Ruto’s UDA and the Rigathi Gachagua-led DCP.
“The Returning Officer, Antony Njiraine, declared Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) the duly elected Member of the National Assembly for Ol Kalou Constituency after garnering 35,440 votes in the by-election held on 16th July 2026. Samuel Muchina Nyagah (UDA) finished second with 5,450 votes,” the electoral body said.
