National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has paid tribute to the late East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) member Shogo Mlozi Sedoyeka.

Mlozi passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2024, in a hospital in Arusha, Tanzania, where she was undergoing treatment.

Wetang’ula eulogizes Mlozi

In a statement on behalf of the Kenyan Parliament, Wetang’ula expressed deep sorrow over the untimely demise of Mlozi Sedoyeka revealing her dedication to promoting unity and cooperation among East African member states.

“The Kenyan Parliament is deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Dr. Shogo Mlozi Sedoyeka, a Tanzanian Member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA),” Wetang’ula stated.

“Serving her first term, Dr. Mlozi was a highly respected and dedicated member, known for her unwavering commitment to serving East Africa. Her passion for promoting unity and cooperation among member states was evident in all her work and advocacy.”

Wetang’ula highlighted Mlozi’s dedication to advancing the goals of the East African Community, describing her passing as a significant loss.

“She tirelessly addressed crucial regional issues, including Economic Development, Trade, and Regional Integration. Her relentless dedication to advancing the goals of the East African Community will be sorely missed,” he said.

“Dr. Mlozi’s passing is a heartbreaking loss for EALA and the entire EAC. My thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and colleagues during this very difficult time. May her soul rest in eternal peace.”

Mlozi was elected to EALA in December 2022 and was set to serve until December 2027. Before her tenure at EALA, she served as the Chief Executive Officer of the National College of Tourism.

She also held the position of Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality at the Open University of Tanzania (OUT).
