Wetangula mourns death of former Kirinyaga Senator Daniel Karaba

The National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has mourned the late former Kirinyaga Senator Daniel Karaba, describing him as a man full of humility.

In a post on his official X account on Monday, March 23, 2026, Wetangula, who previously served alongside the late Senator, explained that he senator has an unwavering commitment to public service.

Similarly, Wetangula remembered Karaba, who was Kirinyaga’s first Senator, as a man who served with dedication, integrity and humility.

“It is with deep sorrow that I have received the news of the passing of former Kirinyaga Senator Daniel Karaba. I had the privilege of serving alongside Sen. Karaba during the 11th Parliament at the dawn of devolution, and I can attest to his unwavering commitment to public service, marked by dedication, integrity, and humility,” Wetangula said.

Before his parliamentary stint, Karaba was a teacher who grew to become a school principal and education leader.

Worth noting after leaving his teaching job at Highway Secondary school in 2002, Karaba was elected Member of Parliament for Kirinyaga Central in 2003.

“A teacher by profession, Hon. Karaba leaves behind a distinguished legacy in both education and leadership, having made a lasting impact on the lives of many and the development of our nation,” he added.

At the same time, the National Assembly Speaker extended the Parliamentary Service Commission’s condolences to his family, the people of Kirinyaga, and all those who had the honour of knowing and working with Karaba.

“On behalf of the Parliamentary Service Commission, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, the people of Kirinyaga, and all those who had the honour of knowing and working with him. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he added.

Karaba’s demise

Governor Anne Waiguru announced Karaba’s demise on Monday, March 23, 2026, describing him as a “distinguished son of Kirinyaga whose life was defined by service, humility, and a deep commitment to education and leadership. 

“Mwalimu Karaba built a remarkable career as a teacher, principal, and education leader before serving as a two-term Member of Parliament for Kirinyaga Central and later as Senator,” said governor Waiguru.

Karaba entered elective politics in 2002 when he was elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Kirinyaga Central. He served one term in the National Assembly from 2003 to 2007 under the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC).
