Nyamira County residents have put police officers on the spot following high crime rate.

They say murder and robbery cases are on the rise.

They singled out Nyamira town where cases of murder and robbery were rampant.

The residents who were led by David Ogeto accused Nyamira South OCS Patrick Libole of sleeping on the job and demanded his immediate transfer.

The residents were reacting to two incidents where a secondary school teacher and a middle aged man were on Monday night attacked and killed by armed thugs.

The deceased George Komora Batasi, who was a teacher at Ikobe Secondary in Manga sub-county, was attacked at his Gesore home within Nyamira town.

He had responded to a distress from his chicken coop.

Good brains

Batasi who suffered deep panga cuts all over his body was pronounced dead on arrival at Nyamira County Referral Hospital where he was rushed to by neighbours.

“We have always complained to our county commissioner about the conduct of police who cannot come to our rescue during attacks,” Ogeto noted.

They claimed the police were only good at cracking down on chang’aa dealers.

The residents complained that it was needless to have police officers in the area who cannot protect them and therefore called for a reshuffle.

“It is unfortunate that we have lost a teacher who is one of the good brains in our society due to police laxity,” said Ogeto.

Nyamira South OCPD Marthin Wambugu confirmed the two deaths and said that his officers were pursuing the suspects.

“The teacher mentioned suspects whom we are tracking down,”
