The number of candidates involved in examination malpractices dropped from 4,113 last year to 3,669 this year.

Out of this, 840 had their results cancelled while those of 2,829 were withheld on suspicion of having been involved in various irregularities.

This is as the government dismissed reports that there was early exposure of the just released Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.

Speaking at Mitihani House in Nairobi during the release of the 2024 KCSE examination results, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba assured the public that the ministry was able to curb the malpractice which had been common in previous years.

“Field administration of theory papers and practicals was successfully undertaken between Tuesday 22nd October and Friday 22nd November 2023. During this period, 10,754 centres with registered candidates were served from 610 distribution centres. The double collection of first and second-session papers was successful thus eliminating the challenge of early exposure that a few centres used to engage in,” he said.

However, Ogamba said at least 840 candidates have had their KCSE results cancelled following their involvement in examination irregularities. In addition to the 840 cancellations, the Education CS revealed that the results of another 2,829 candidates suspected of involvement in examination malpractice have been withheld.

These withheld results will remain under review until investigations are completed, with a final decision expected within 30 days of the official release of the examination results.
