More than 300,000 legal documents, including identity cards, driving licences, and birth certificates, remain uncollected at Huduma Centres across the country.

This situation has prompted the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Justin Muturi, to issue an urgent appeal to Kenyans to collect these essential documents from the 57 centres countrywide. The CS divulged that there are more than 190,000 identity cards, 60,000 driving licenses, and 55,000 birth certificates lying unclaimed.

“This accumulation, has become a significant headache for both the government and the staff working at these centres,” said Muturi.

Citizen responsibility
At the Thika centre alone, he revealed that there are more than 10,000 uncollected IDs, 6,000 driving licenses and 2,800 birth certificates.

“The managers of these the centres have gone beyond their mandate by trying to contact applicants multiple times, but the responsibility ultimately lies with the citizens,” he added.

The CS urged those who applied for these documents to take the initiative to check their status and pick them up as soon as possible.

He also took the opportunity to commend Huduma Centre workers for their dedication and high-quality service delivery. He noted that the centres continue to operate efficiently and praised the staff for their commitment to serving the public.
