Gatundu North Member of Parliament (MP) Njoroge Kururia has pleaded with President William Ruto to help build a new level five hospital in the region.

Speaking on Sunday, December 14, 2025, the MP highlighted the toll the residents face in travelling long distances to access advanced healthcare services in Gatundu North or Thika.

He stated that the establishment of a healthcare facility would hugely impact the lives of the people of Gatundu North, which remains without such a high-level medical facility.

Healthcare concerns

“Here in Gatundu North, when our residents want to access healthcare, they have to travel all the way to Njabini, Thika, or Gatundu South. We ask that you build for us a level five hospital here to help our people get access to medical facilities conveniently,” he stated.

Currently, the area relies on Gatundu Level 5 Hospital, located in neighbouring Gatundu South constituency, which was recently refurbished and handed back to Kiambu County management on December 9, 2025, after national government upgrades.

The MP also asked Ruto to come to his aid and intervene in the water crisis in the area.

Kururia’s allegiance to Ruto

The MP, who remains a close ally of the president, also reiterates his support for Ruto, citing his development agenda.

His allegiance has, however, come at a cost, making him the brunt of a section of regional leaders’ criticism, with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua leading the offensive against the lawmaker.

Speaking on Saturday, May 31, 2025, in the Gatukuyu area of Gatundu North, Gachagua branded Kururia a traitor who had abandoned his constituents in favour of personal gains and political loyalty to Ruto.

He accused the MP of taking handouts for himself from the government while basic services in his constituency continued to suffer.

Tukifukuza Ruto, tufukuze wasaliti. Msaliti wa Gatundu North ni Kururia. Msaliti aende,” Gachagua declared.

“You go and take a little money, and you betray these women, the elderly, and children. There are no medicines in hospitals, schools have stalled, and university students are not in class. Ruto has ruined everything. You go just to satisfy your stomach — the traitor should go home. We are saying: “Ruto, UDA, and the traitors—it’s the end; it’s over.”
