Three suspected members of a robbery gang linked to a series of violent attacks in Nairobi have been arrested in an intelligence-led operation in Kawangware, with detectives recovering a pistol, ammunition and two motorcycles believed to have been used in the crimes.

In a statement on Friday, July 24, 2026, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said detectives from its Headquarters Operation Action Team (OAT) arrested the persons of interest following investigations into a string of violent robberies reported in Westlands and other parts of the capital.

According to the DCI, the operation was conducted along Ngina Road in Kawangware, where detectives first arrested one.

“Following painstaking investigations that meticulously pieced together the persons of interest’s criminal trail, detectives conducted an intelligence-led operation along Ngina Road in Kawangware and arrested Nimrod Khayeshe, alias Buba,” DCI stated.

Police said the first person of interest later led investigators to his two alleged accomplices, who were subsequently arrested.

What the officers recovered

During the operation, detectives recovered a Retay Falcon pistol fitted with a magazine loaded with three rounds of 9mm ammunition.

The officers also seized two motorcycles, which investigators believe were used by the persons of interest as getaway bikes during robbery missions.

The three persons of interest remain in police custody and are undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment in court.

“The three persons of interest are in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment. Meanwhile, the recovered pistol and motorcycles are being detained as exhibits,” DCI said.

The recovered firearm and motorcycles have been detained as exhibits as detectives continue with investigations into the gang’s alleged involvement in violent robberies across Nairobi.

The DCI said the arrests demonstrate its continued commitment to combating violent crime through intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks operating across the country.

“This operation underscores the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ resolve to relentlessly pursue criminals and dismantle criminal networks through intelligence-led operations across the country,” DCI said.
