Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has dismissed claims that Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has left the party to join Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi movement.

Speaking during an interview with a local media station on Friday, July 24, 2026, the outspoken former defence cabinet secretary maintained that Natembeya remains DAP-K’s deputy party leader and has not officially resigned from the party.

Wamalwa said he has not received any formal communication from Natembeya indicating that he has quit DAP-K, insisting that the governor is still a member of the party despite the ongoing speculation.

“Natembeya has not left the DAP-K party; if any DAP-K member is planning a homecoming, he is doing so on behalf of the party. I have not received any official communication from anyone about ditching the party,” he said.

The DAP-K leader explained that members of his party who are currently at the forefront of organising Sifuna’s homecoming ceremony are doing so in the spirit of opposition unity, noting that both the Linda Mwananchi movement and the United Opposition share the common objective of making President William Ruto a one-term president.

He further argued that participation in the Linda Mwananchi movement does not automatically translate to leaving one’s political party. To support his point, Wamalwa noted that there are also members of the Wiper Party who have been associated with the movement, yet they have not officially resigned from their respective parties.

Sifuna’s homecoming ceremony

Wamalwa also clarified that he will not attend Sifuna’s homecoming ceremony, explaining that the United Alternative Government team has its own separate political programme despite sharing similar aspirations with the Linda Mwananchi movement. He reiterated that DAP-K members taking part in the event are doing so on behalf of the party and have not defected.

His remarks come amid growing speculation over DAP-K’s political future after the Trans Nzoia governor recently declared that he was no longer a member of the DAP Party.

Natembeya ditches DAP-K

Natembeya announced that he had aligned himself with Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi movement and was waiting for the political party that Sifuna is expected to unveil so that he could officially join it.

The governor also took a swipe at DAP-K, claiming that the party has been reduced to a shell of its former self and no longer enjoys significant political influence.

The developments come at a time when several senior politicians from Western Kenya have increasingly aligned themselves with Sifuna’s growing political movement, raising questions about the future of DAP-K in the region.

Former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati recently announced that he would also align himself with Sifuna as he awaits the unveiling of the Linda Mwananchi political party. Former Bungoma Deputy Governor Charles Ngome and former Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi have similarly been associated with the movement, further fuelling speculation of a major political realignment in Western Kenya.
